Enjoy the Spring Blooms in Cleveland

Enjoy the Spring Blooms in Cleveland

Admiring the spring blooms is just as fun as viewing the fall foliage, no matter where you are. There’s no better sight after a long winter than seeing beautiful flowers start to open up or trees becoming green again. While Cleveland may be a big city, it’s also known for its “Emerald Necklace,” referring to all the beautiful parks around the city, meaning you’ll find beauty everywhere you go.

Peak spring blooms are roughly mid-to-late April here in Ohio, depending on how the winter went. The best time to visit the following spots is early morning or during the workweek. They’re all pretty popular locations so they will inevitably get busy as the day goes on.

While you can find spring blooms just about everywhere you go, here are the top spots in Cleveland for viewing some of the most popular spring blooms.

Cherry Blossoms in Brookside Reservation

Brookside Reservation

A slightly hidden gem of Cleveland during the springtime, this Cleveland Metropark reservation offers over 100 cherry blossom trees that were planted here since the 1990s from the Japanese Association of Northeast Ohio. The Brookside Reservation is located right next to the Cleveland Zoo and boasts sports fields, a creek, picnic areas, and more.

Wade Lagoon - Cleveland Museum of Art

Wade Lagoon - Cleveland Museum of Art

University Circle

Every Clevelander knows the number one spot to view the spring blooms is in University Circle. Here you’ll find Wade Lagoon, located directly behind the Cleveland Museum of Art. The lagoon is home to some beautiful Cherry Blossom all around it, with a couple of Magnolia trees next to the museum’s back entrance. You’ll find more spring blooms along the sides of other buildings

The Cleveland Botanical Garden also has tons of beautiful flowers, inside and out. If you go a bit earlier in the spring months, the Garden hosts “Orchid Mania” where you can view a different variety of stunning Orchids.

The Cultural Gardens are another great spot. It’s a stretch of road where you can view some history and art, along with some more spring blooms. And located up the road, Rockefeller Park Greenhouse is where you’ll find tons and tons of tulips planted outside (the inside is pretty great too).

Lake View Cemetery - Daffodil Hill

Lake View Cemetery

Only in Cleveland is it acceptable to explore a cemetery… Not far from University Circle, you’ll find Daffodil Hill, where there’s roughly 10,000 daffodils planted inside the Lake View Cemetery. All along the roads in the cemetery, you’ll also find beautiful cherry blossoms, magnolias, and other flowers.

While you’re here, be sure to check out President James A. Garfield’s Memorial.

Furnace Run

Bluebells are a springtime favorite, especially here in Northeast Ohio. While there’s many places to see them, Furnace Run is a local favorite due to the number of bluebells in a large space. Furnace Run is located next to the Everett Road Covered Bridge in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
