A little slice of wilderness right here in Ohio between Cleveland and Columbus. Mohican State Park and State Forest is a wonderful little getaway from the cities. Hike through the woods and you won’t even remember you’re in Ohio; or go camping in a tree house or a cabin on the lake; or go canoeing at Ohio’s canoe capital.
While Cuyahoga Valley National Park may not be the first place you think of for beautiful places to photograph, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing here. Located between the major cities of Cleveland and Akron, CVNP is a place where urban meets wilderness and combines it into something truly spectacular.
Since Cuyahoga Valley National Park isn’t very large (compared to other National Parks), it’s entirely possible to see everything in one day, but to truly appreciate it if you’re coming from out of town, you’ll want two days. So I rounded up the top sites to see, along with where to stay and eat, for an amazing weekend in the Valley.
The Cleveland Metroparks reservations are full of amazing things to do and see, but also have some of the best trails in the local park systems. So here’s my top 5 recommendations on trails to check out.
With over 10,000 acres of trails, waterfalls, caves, gorges and more, the park is one of, if not the most popular park in the state of Ohio. Located just over an hour southeast of Ohio’s capitol, Columbus, this is the crown jewel of the state.
Visiting any new park can be intimidating if you don’t know where to go or where to start, especially with the larger State Parks. I recently visited this park for the first time and did a lot of research to be prepared, so I’m sharing my tips from what I learned and the top 5 spots to visit while there.
